Cookie Policy
Last updated 24 August 2026
This policy explains how we use cookies on toucanecommerce.com, what each one is for, how long it lasts and how to change your mind. The site is operated by Trade Toucan Limited, trading as Toucan Ecommerce. It sits alongside our privacy policy, which covers personal data more broadly, and the cookies section there says the same thing in the context of your wider rights.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep. It lets the site recognise the same browser on a later page or a later visit. Similar technologies - local storage, pixels and tracking tags - do much the same job, and everything in this policy applies to them too.
Cookies set by this site are called first-party. Cookies set by another company whose code runs on a page, such as Google, are called third-party. We use very few of either, and the table below is the complete list.
Your choice, and how to change it
The first time you arrive we ask what you are happy with. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookie is set until you answer, and choosing Reject all is exactly as quick as choosing Accept all. If you reject, no analytics or advertising code is loaded at all - it is not loaded and then muted.
You can change your answer whenever you like: . The same link sits in the footer of every page. If you withdraw a category you had previously allowed, we delete the cookies behind it and reload the page so the code stops running immediately.
We ask again after six months. Consent is not meant to last forever, and we would rather re-ask than assume. We will also ask again if we add anything that materially changes what the categories cover.
Strictly necessary
These make the site work and remember the choice you made about the others. They do not need your consent, because the site cannot function without them, and they are never used to profile you.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| toucan_consent | Toucan (this site) | Stores which cookie categories you accepted, and when, so we do not ask again on every page. | 6 months |
Analytics
Google Analytics 4, which tells us which pages, case studies and whitepapers people actually read, and where they give up. We look at it in aggregate to decide what to write and what to fix. Nothing loads until you opt in.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Assigns a randomly generated ID so repeat visits are counted as one visitor rather than several. | 2 years | |
| _ga_70PE0MHRRC | Holds the state of the current session for our Google Analytics property. | 2 years |
Marketing
Used to measure which campaigns bring brands to the site, and to show Toucan ads to people who have already visited. Nothing loads until you opt in, and opting out costs you nothing but a less relevant ad somewhere else.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | Records that you arrived from a Google ad, so a later enquiry can be attributed to the campaign that earned it. | 3 months | |
| IDE, test_cookie | Google (doubleclick.net) | Set by Google when we run remarketing, to limit how often an ad is shown and to measure whether it worked. These are third-party cookies on Google's own domains, not ours. | Up to 13 months |
Google Consent Mode
Where we do use Google's tags, we run them in Google Consent Mode v2. In plain terms: your answer is passed to Google as an explicit signal, so storage for analytics, advertising, ad personalisation and ad user data is switched on only for the categories you allowed. Anything you did not allow stays denied.
The legal basis
Under the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, analytics and advertising cookies need your consent before they are set. Strictly necessary cookies do not, because the service you asked for cannot be delivered without them. Consent is the basis we rely on for everything in the analytics and marketing categories above, and you can withdraw it at any time without giving a reason and without any effect on the rest of the site.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Your browser can block or delete cookies independently of anything we do - look under privacy or site settings in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox. Blocking all cookies will break the record of your consent choice on this site, so the banner will reappear. Google also publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics everywhere.
